Great Snack Ideas
Here is a list of snacks my kids love! If you have a snack that is not listed or You would like to add, please write me in the comment section. I also want to add that my kids get hungry throughout the day. I leave cut up grapes, cheerios, strawberries, crackers, small teddy grahams, etc in a bowl on the table or a place accessible to the kids. This way, if they are running by, the can grab a handful or sit for a few moments and snack on something nutritious. Dr Sears calls this "grazing". Kids may do not take the time to sit when they are busy, busy, busy, but they can run by, grab a handful and energize themselves. I have my kids sit at the table and eat their meals and snacks, but if they feel like a handful of cheerios in-between meals, then they can get them ;-)
- My kids' love the Dannon's mousse strawberry and vanilla yogurts. I cut up strawberries into little pieces and put both in a bowl and mix it up. First, the yogurt is a mousse and easy for the kids to pick up on a spoon by themselves and strawberries are one of their favorite fruits.
- Dannon's mousse yogurts and any yogurts are great snacks for the kids, especially if they are not big milk drinkers!
- Obviously any fruits and veggies are great snacks; the trick is how to get the kids to eat the veggies! Fruit for me is easy; it's the veggies we have a problem with. Using a dipping sauce may help you, such as a yogurt or peanut butter. Let us remember, the fastest, easiest, on the go, "I have no time to make something" snacks are FRUITS and VEGGIES!! They are ready to go, no fuss, no muss except washing!
- Another snack my kid's love are Cheerios! Put a few in a zip lock and you have a quick, on the go snack or put them in a bowl w/o milk and you have healthy, crunchy snack for the kids.
- Fat free pudding is a great snack for the kids and there are a variety of flavors they can enjoy! PLEASE check the labels for SUGAR content! It may be fat free, but they may LOAD UP on the sugars. If possible, try to get the Green Wise or any Whole Foods/Organic labels!
TIP: We are our kids' role model; they will mimic what we eat. The healthier we eat, the easier it will be for our kids to eat their veggies! It's hard to tell your kids to eat right when we are stuffing our faces with fast food, bags of chips and cookies!
