Ok Mamas, I have been to EVERY baby, toddler, child, WHATEVER class you call it, I have done it. Gymboree, My Gym, Music Together, Developmental Classes, Gymnastics, Swimming, you get the idea. I wanted to put a list together for other moms that haven't been able to go, can't go, cant afford to go, or any other reason. Here are some activities and ideas for you to try with your own babies. If you have a great idea that has worked for you and your baby, put it in the comment section!! Other moms WANT to know!
My kids loved Gymboree. There was singing, dancing, playing with a parachute, bubbles (the all time BEST bubbles in the world) other kids and it was a great place to meet moms. Awesome place to join if you can, www.gymboree.com, check it out. If you can't go, try these ideas with you baby. Babies love to hear rhythm and sing songing voices. When you sing child songs, rock you baby, gently swing them from side to side or up and down. ANY song will do. I would sing the grocery list if I had to, folks. As long as you have the up and down rhythm to your voice, my babies especially loved it. Ever dance with you baby? My son, especially would ONLY go to sleep if you danced with him. I don't mean a slow dance, people, I MEAN lets get FUNKY here. I don't know why he loved it so much, but I would put him in his sling or hold him and GO TO TOWN. When my daughter was a baby, she could care less. "Give me my Baba and shut the door folks" was her motto. Funny, same parenting, two completely different kids! Both my kids love to go for walks, which are free (if you didn't know), plus it's a great way to talk, learn, bond and interact with your babies. As long as my babies were OUT of the house, singing outside, looking around, or listening to me talk they were fine. Guess what I did A LOT of. You can buy great activities for babies also, such as mats, rattlers, toys, dolls, teething toys, ITS ALL OUT THERE FOLKS!!. If you can't buy some things, it doesn't take much, just a little imagination. Once my mom took beans, put them in an empty water bottle and Maddie had an instant rattle. She was fascinated for a little while, but GET CREATIVE, see what you can come up with. If you have access to a pool (Florida is H. O. T.) get the babies in as soon as possible. Its great activity and WEARS there little hinnies out. If you wanted to play a little parachute fun with your baby (hide and seek or peek a boo) and can't buy one, MAKE IT. My parents would take a bed sheet outside and have the best time with my son when he was little. Works the same as chute, you have them accessible and guess what, the baby doesn't know it's NOT a real parachute. They had the best fun playing games and just "being". Sheer scarves were used during the classes and babies love them. If you can't buy them, make them. Cut up old clothes, sheets, or whatever. Mamas, GET CREATIVE, babies love anything b/c you are doing it with them. Use the scarves for Peek a Boo or dancing, and let them feel the textures, babies love textures. Put your baby in front of the mirror. Hey, lets be honest, we love to look at ourselves, so do they! Sing, point to body parts, have fun. Maddie loved to kiss herself in front of the mirror and my son would go talk to himself. He never needed an imaginary friend, he saw himself. Obviously watching the baby videos (click on videos under baby) and reading to your baby. DOESN'T matter what you read, they don't care, just sing song your voice and read! People, Women's Health, Good Housekeeping, whatever, babies don't care. They are being held, talked to and bonding, while you get your no brainer entertainment. Kill two birds with one stone. Love those. There are also books you can buy which list ideas for moms to play with babies. The books are usually entirely devoted to ideas, which are great. You have a thousand ideas at your disposal. Do a little research and go to the book stores, see if you find something you like. Bath time can be fun also. I LOVE the smell of freshly washed, naked babies. I sing, talk and massage to the kids, both love it. Both my kids favorite activity was jumping in a jumper that hung from the door frame. That was the ONLY place either would stay for long periods of time and just had a ball!! You can get them at any major retailer. Along with the jumper is the exersaucer and bouncy chairs. Finally, it's a proven fact that Mozart and other composers have helped baby's brain intellect and development process. Play these CD's as your baby falls to sleep or while playing and interacting or even while still in the womb!! You can buy these just about anywhere, here are so helpful sites to check out: |
